ICAPS 2005 Social Events

Monterey Peninsula is known to be one of the most charming and beautiful places on the California coast. This is precisely why the conference chairs chose it to be the site for ICAPS 05. We hope to give you a taste of this natural beauty and a pleasant environment to interact with ICAPS community in the following social events.

Monday, June 6 Noon – MBARI

(1:00PM – 5:00PM)

ICAPS 05 is offering an exciting trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), a prestigious Oceanographic Institute that will showcase the MBARI's AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles)! Attendance will be limited to the first 20 people who register for the event. A bus will pick up the lucky 20 at the South Entrance of the Regency Conference Center at 1 PM. The guests will return to the hotel by 5 PM. To register for this event, please send email to mbari_vist_icaps05@mac.com no later than May 14th!

Monday, June 6 Evening – Shuttle services in the area

(6:00PM – 11:00PM)

A shuttle will operate between the Monterey Hyatt and Carmel-by-the-Sea during 6:00PM and 11:00PM on Monday, June 6. The shuttle will depart every half hour from the South Entrance of the hotel, and will make a circle. You will be able to catch it at Carmel Plaza on Ocean Avenue, back to the hotel. We encourage you to take this opportunity to discover the beautiful Carmel beach, to enjoy the sophisticated restaurants in the area, and possibly to do some California wine tasting.

Tuesday, June 7 – Beach Party

(7:00PM – 10:00PM)

Many people have an image of California as a laid-back place with palm trees, beaches full of surfers, spectacular sunsets, and, mistakenly, hot summers. Let's add to this image a beach fire and bar-b-q, and make it a beach party! We will have this party at Adventures By The Sea at 7:00PM on Tuesday evening. The distance of the event site from the hotel is about 1.1 miles, perfect to stretch your legs on a scenery hike! For those who are more laid-back than we think, there will be a shuttle van. Do not forget to bring a sweat-shirt (summer nights along the beach can be quite cool) and some cash if you want to have a beer or two. Additional guests beyond those registered can be accommodated for $45.00 per person.

Wednesday, June 8 – Doctoral Consortium / Hors d'oeuvres

(6:00PM – 8:30PM)

The doctoral consortium, system demonstrations and poster sessions will be held at the conference site starting at 6:30PM. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served during the event.

As a special guest, Macia McNutt, the CEO of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, will give a talk on ''How to be a Successful Scientist''.

Thursday, June 9 – Main Dinner

(6:30PM – 10:30PM)

The conference dinner will be held at the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. You missed the white shark, as she has already been released back to the wilderness. But there is a lot more to see. Buses will be ready at the South Entrance of the Regency Conference Center to provide transportation to the aquarium right before 6:30PM, and will take you back to the hotel at around 10:30PM. Additional guests beyond those registered can be accommodated for $60.00 per person, which includes admission to the aquarium, dinner and to/from transportation.
